Why Practice This Drill
Keep the break alive.
Unsettles your opponent when you consistently pot them.
Pick A Game
Beginner: Practice for 10 minutes. Keep track of your best score.
Club player: Practice for 15 minutes. Keep track of your best score.
Pro: Practice for 15 minutes without missing.
Consecutive Blacks Steps
Step 1: Set Balls Up
Put red so that it’s touching the top cushion. Put white within easy potting distance, so you have a natural angle to bounce off the cushion to get position on the black.
Step 2: Pot Red
Pot the red ((hitting cue ball just above centre) and gain position on black. The closer you position the cue ball to the black the easier the shot will be. Using “side” will not make the shot easier (you’ll never see a pro play these shots with side).
Step 3: Replace The Red
Replace the red in the same position along the cushion.
Step 4: Pot The Black
Pot the black and gain position on red.
Step 5: Track Your Score
Keep track of your best score (e.g. 20 red and black pots in a row).
Advanced Step: Top Left Spin
If during your break, the cue ball doesn’t bounce off the cushion enough, leaving you an almost straight shot, use “top left spin” to gain position on the black.
