Why Practice This Drill

Increase confidence with positional play by knowing that hitting up and down the centre of the ball produces 9 unique positional plays.

Pick A Game

Beginner: Hit 3 balls. 

Club player: Hit all 9 balls. 

Pro: Hit all 9 balls in a row. 

9 Cue Ball Heights Steps 

Step 1: Set Balls Up

Put black on its spot, and cue ball high on the black for an easy pot. 

Step 2: Position The 9 Balls 

Put 9 balls in a semi circle (see picture below or watch video for the exact spots).

Step 3: Hit 9 Balls From The Same Position

Play +4 shot (top middle), and hit the 1st ball.
Play +3 shot, and hit the 2nd ball.
Play +2 shot, and hit the 3rd ball.
Play +1 shot, and hit the 4th ball.
Play 0 shot, (middle) and hit the 5th ball.
Play -1 shot, and hit the 6th ball.
Play -2 shot, and hit the 7th ball.
Play -3 shot, and hit the 8th ball.
Play -4 shot, (bottom middle) and hit the 9th ball.

Optional Step: Low On Black 

Rearrange the 9 balls, and repeat the exercise with the cue ball low on the black (see picture below or watch video for the exact spots).
